Big Bang Theory
During my senior year as an undergraduate, I was tasked with transforming The Big Bang of Numbers—a mathematical thesis by professor and author Manil Suri—into a compelling motion graphic video. The goal was to visually communicate the core concept of Suri’s work: how mathematics can be seen as the creative force behind the universe, much like the Big Bang is the origin of space and time.
The animation concept centered around a stylized cosmic explosion, beginning in a void and gradually building momentum through the emergence of fundamental mathematical elements—dots, lines, shapes, and numbers. These symbols of order and logic slowly gain complexity, forming patterns that evolve into galaxies, planets, and stars. As the sequence progresses, the visual energy intensifies, culminating in a vibrant, symbolic "Big Bang" where abstract math erupts into the structured beauty of the cosmos.
Using a combination of particle effects, layered animation, and dynamic transitions, I aimed to capture the grandeur of creation while emphasizing the elegance and structure of mathematical thought. The project not only challenged me to balance scientific abstraction with visual storytelling, but also deepened my appreciation for how design can make complex ideas both accessible and emotionally resonant.
Paul Rand:
Subway Posters Score
This project explores the transformation of Paul Rand’s Subway Posters Score—a rhythmic, grid-based design study—into a dynamic motion graphics piece that brings his visual composition to life through movement, sound, and vibrant color. Rather than animating a single poster, this project interprets Rand’s Score as a sequence, much like a musical composition or storyboard, using motion to reveal the playful logic and tempo behind his iconic graphic arrangements.
The animation will highlight the graphic “beats” of the score: shifts in shape, scale, contrast, and alignment will be animated in sync with an upbeat, whimsical soundtrack. Each frame or “note” of Rand’s score will transition fluidly, creating a visual symphony that honors the structure and spontaneity of his modernist approach. Colorful palettes, modular shapes, and lively transitions will inject energy into the static composition, offering a fresh and fun take on mid-century design principles.
Ultimately, this motion piece will celebrate the intersection of design and rhythm, illustrating how Paul Rand’s work can continue to inspire in new, dynamic formats.
Cake
This project is an exploratory study in motion design, where I experiment with different motion graphic techniques and visual art elements to create three distinct interpretations of the theme "Cake". Each concept represents a unique approach in style, tone, and animation language, allowing me to push the boundaries of how a single word or idea can be visually expressed through motion.
In each version, I explore a combination of design principles—such as composition, color, texture, shape, and timing—while incorporating various animation techniques including kinetic typography, abstract motion, and character-based storytelling. Whether playful and whimsical, minimal and elegant, or surreal and experimental, each piece reflects a different emotional or conceptual angle on "Cake".
Through this process, I aim to deepen my understanding of visual storytelling, refine my motion design skills, and develop a personal voice within the world of animation and design. The project serves as both a creative challenge and a portfolio piece showcasing versatility, experimentation, and concept-driven motion graphics..
